What does being an UKFRRT member involve?Members of the UKFRRT are trained radiographers who have developed appropriate skills in forensic imaging techniques (including dental radiography), and also knowledge of the legal framework they are required to work within to ensure information produced is admissible in a court of law. Such knowledge and skills will have been gained through attendance at IAFR approved theoretical and practical training sessions and also through experience gained in the field. Radiographers who wish to join the UKFRRT will be required to provide evidence with their application confirming that their NHS manager is aware that they may be asked to release them at relatively short notice in the event of a mass incident. In the event of a mass incident, team members will be asked, usually by e-mail, to confirm their availability. The initial UKFRRT mortuary response team will normally comprise of experienced team members who have confirmed their immediate availability. A medium to long term rota is then produced based on confirmed team member availability. Invitations to join the mortuary team will largely be dictated by members confirmed availability and the anticipated period the mortuary will be in operation. In recognition that exposure to temporary mortuary work over an extended period can adversely affect performance, mortuary team members are regularly rotated to minimise such risks and provide an opportunity for the maximum number of team members to participate in the operation. |
