Are you providing Paediatric Forensic MRI service?

Are you providing Paediatric Forensic MRI service?

The role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has progressed from being a research tool to a valuable imaging tool in the forensic investiation. The Royal College of Radiologists acknowledge that MRI has a major role, supplementary to CT in the investigation of suspected brain injury in children following non accidental trauma.1 MRI has the advantage of being non-invasive, more positively received by the public (especially certain religious groups) and providing a permanent, objective record of the features observed.

We have recently had an enquiry regarding the use of MRI in the forensic investigation of children. There are severeal areas of research relating to the use of MRI in the forensic investigation but it is important to be aware what is happening clinically, on a national and regional level. If your department or trust is currently providing this service we’d like to hear from you to share your experiences and recommendations on best practice in this area via the AFR website.
