AFR Inaugural meeting at ISRRT World CongressMay 19, 2008 The Association of Forensic Radiographers held its inaugural international meeting at the International Society of Radiographers and Radiologic Technologists (ISRRT) conference in Durban, South Africa at the end of April. A full day’s programme of forensic based lectures and discussion took place with over 200 international delegates participating. The delegates heard from speakers from the world of forensic radiography, pathology and anthropology in South Africa, the UK, the Netherlands and New Zealand, covering such subjects as child abuse, protocol development, professional development and training in forensics, the contribution of radiography to the work of the forensic pathologist, ballistic injury, CT in forensics, case studies and recent developments in forensic imaging. The day ended with a panel discussion on the future of radiography in forensic work and involved speakers from the day as well as representatives from the radiographic societies of the UK, USA, Canada and South Africa. Particular thanks goes to Professor Steve Naidoo of the University of KwaZuluNatal for his assistance in organising the programme which included keynote lectures by forensic pathologists from Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg.
