Default Intra Uterine Deaths

What do people do in their respective trusts with regards to booking IUD's on the RIS sysytem? Do you treat them as you would a new attender or as a pathological specimen of the mother? Your thoughts are appreciated.

Exclamation IUD's

According to our trust policy 'Guidelines for Fetal Death in Utero (FDIU)/
Stillbirth / Early Neonatal Death (ENND)'

5.2 Birth & Deaths Registration Acts & Public Health Acts
All stillbirths and all live births regardless of gestation at delivery must be notified and registered.

As a result, the IUD would be entered as a new attendance not a pathological specimen of the mother.

I hope this is concurred by numorous other trusts. Especially as it is part of the Birth and Deaths Registration Acts.

Andy

I'll look into it again as we've always had issues with medical records here due to the fact that unless a birth certificate is issued then they can't issue a death certificate and they are always telling us that unless a baby lives for 48hrs then this won't happen.
At present i still register all still births and IUD's as new patients but continue to get grief for it.
Thanks for the advice, i'll follow it up.
